EDGE SCHEDULE (Every Day God Encounters)
EDGE youth have jumped back into our Wednesday evening meetings with some great discussions. So far this year we have been approaching the subject of our identity in Christ and what does it mean to be a son or a daughter of God and what does it mean to be a brother or sister in Christ? These are great questions to be asking ourselves and one another. Hebrews 10:24 reminds us to ‘Consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.’ And Romans 12:15 tells us to ‘Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.’ We are called to love our brothers and sisters, but first and foremost we are called into a relationship with God. We must always remember that no matter our grades at school, no matter what our peers think, no matter what the world thinks we should do or should not do. God wants us to draw near and strengthen our souls in His grace. In John 15:4, Jesus tells us ‘You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.’ As the family of God, what are some ways we can encourage our young people to slow down and rest in God? The broad stereotype of teens is one of laziness and apathy – but the actual teens in OUR midst are overwhelmed with academic, cultural and many other pressures to “perform.” Sobering studies are surfacing weekly about the mental health of our youth and it is heartbreaking. When considering stewardship this fall, add to your prayers a request for guidance in shepherding our younger generations into what a life WITH God looks like, and not just a life “for” God.
As we move in to this new school year, let this be a ministry that gathers, encourages, serves and loves with the Light of Christ.
Dates to Know
Summer in the Son was so much fun this year! 28 children spent three Wednesdays learning from Trinity’s middle and high school youth. They learned about Moses leading the Israelite’s through the wilderness and how God provided for them along the way. They learned about Ruth and how she stuck by her Mother-In-Law Naomi when times were hard and they learned about Jeremiah and how God has a plan for us even before we are born…and that we are never too young to share God’s love with others.
